Root Canal Treatment

Service Description

A root canal is a treatment used to save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected. When the pulp has become irritated, inflamed, and infected due to deep decay; repeated dental procedures on a tooth; or large fillings, a crack, or chip in the tooth "nerve removal" is necessary. During a root canal procedure, the nerve and pulp of the tooth are removed, and the inside is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth likely will become infected and an abscess may form. Root canal procedures have the reputation of being painful. But the procedure itself is often no more painful than having a filling placed. Because the tooth needed a root canal usually a simple filling cannot be placed as the tooth has been "violated" significantly and will be weaker so other treatment, usually a crown with some kind of buildup will be necessary. Each tooth is evaluated on its own merit and the dentist may refer you to a specialist called an Endodontist.
